Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

1. Introduction

The Global Islamic Research Journal (GIRJ) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, ethical publishing, and scholarly excellence. This journal adheres to the principles and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and follows internationally accepted standards of ethical behavior for all parties involved in the publishing process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.

2. Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to GIRJ are expected to comply with the following ethical standards:

2.1 Originality and Plagiarism

  • Submitted manuscripts must be original and not previously published or under consideration elsewhere.

  • All sources must be properly cited.

  • Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or manipulation, is strictly prohibited.

2.2 Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Submission

  • Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.

  • Any overlapping publications must be clearly disclosed.

2.3 Authorship Criteria

  • Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant academic contributions to the study.

  • All contributors must be properly acknowledged.

  • The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors approve the final manuscript.

2.4 Data Access and Retention

  • Authors should retain research data and be prepared to provide access if requested for verification purposes.

2.5 Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest

  • Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence the research.

3. Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

Editors of GIRJ are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.

3.1 Fair Play

  • Manuscripts are evaluated solely on academic merit, originality, relevance, and clarity, without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, or institutional affiliation.

3.2 Confidentiality

  • Editors must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript except to reviewers and editorial staff.

3.3 Decision-Making

  • Editorial decisions are based on reviewer reports, journal policies, and academic standards.

  • Editors may reject manuscripts that violate ethical principles or journal scope.

3.4 Handling Ethical Complaints

  • Editors follow COPE flowcharts when handling allegations of misconduct, plagiarism, or ethical breaches.

4. Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

4.1 Confidentiality

  • Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.

4.2 Objectivity

  • Reviews should be conducted objectively, respectfully, and constructively.

  • Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate.

4.3 Acknowledgement of Sources

  • Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors.

4.4 Conflict of Interest

  • Reviewers must decline review if they have conflicts of interest with the manuscript.

5. Peer Review Process

GIRJ applies a double-blind peer review process:

  • Identities of authors and reviewers are concealed.

  • Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers.

  • Editorial decisions include:

    • Accept

    • Minor Revision

    • Major Revision

    • Reject

6. Plagiarism Screening Policy

  • All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software.

  • Manuscripts with significant plagiarism are rejected immediately.

  • Minor similarity issues may be returned for correction.

7. Retraction, Correction, and Expression of Concern

7.1 Retraction

Articles may be retracted if:

  • Clear evidence of plagiarism or data fabrication is found.

  • Ethical violations are confirmed.

7.2 Corrections

Minor errors that do not affect the integrity of the work may be corrected through an official corrigendum.

7.3 Expression of Concern

Issued when an investigation is ongoing but not yet concluded.

8. Open Access Policy

GIRJ is an open-access journal, providing immediate and free access to all published content. Readers are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, and use articles for non-commercial purposes.

9. Copyright and Licensing

All articles published in GIRJ are licensed under the:

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0)

Authors retain copyright while granting the journal the right of first publication.

10. Archiving and Preservation Policy

The journal ensures long-term digital preservation through:

  • OJS archiving system

  • Regular backups

  • Institutional and external repositories (where applicable)

11. Ethical Oversight and Compliance

Research involving human participants must:

  • Comply with ethical research standards

  • Respect privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent

  • Follow applicable national and institutional regulations

12. Complaints and Appeals

Authors may submit complaints or appeals regarding editorial decisions. All complaints are handled transparently and in accordance with COPE procedures.

The views expressed in published articles are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the editorial board or publisher.
